Mobile ultrasounds take a step forward with image-sharing

A portable ultrasound device recently used in Africa is making its way to the U.S., giving clinicians the ability to conduct, store and share images at the point of care.

The device is a collaboration between Fujifilm SonoSite and Trice Imaging, whose Tricefy sharing, collaboration and routing software has been integrated with Fujifilm's iViz portable ultrasound unit.

Your Smartphone Is a Portable ECG Machine
This new ECG machine app, called the AliveCor, costs about $200. It snaps onto the iPhone 4 and 4S and contains two electrode-type areas which can apparently take a 30-second single lead electrocardiogram. Then, it lets you transmit that data to your doctor if you’re having symptoms.

Siemens Healthcare gets FDA clearance for next-generation Dual Source CT system

Siemens Healthcare has obtained US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its Somatom Force, the company's next-generation Dual Source computed tomography (CT) system.

The Somatom Force's faster imaging and precise diagnostic capabilities allow low-dose CT for broader groups of patients.

The system extends CT imaging capabilities and dose-reduction features to some of the most challenging patients, such as those who are very young, suffering from renal insufficiency and those who are unable to hold their breath.

Medtronic implants first patient with Evera MRI ICD system in US
Medtronic has reported the first US implant of the Evera MRI SureScan implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) system, following Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for its investigational device exemption (IDE) application and pivotal clinical trial protocol.
